Project of the year 2007-08: World Service Day Community Project![]() On 6 October 2007, we took 176 disabled children from Transvalia, Sonitus, Prinshof and New Hope Schools to an environmental education centre where they received practical environmental education. They were also treated to breakfast, lunch and other treats. Environmental Educational Centre, Mogales Gate, 6 October 2007 Objective: To enhance the educational knowledge, awareness and appreciation of underprivileged youth between the ages of 9 - 15 years., who normally would not have the opportunity nor financial resource to visit the natural environment of our beautiful country and especially our local area. Venue: ``The Mogales Gate Environmental Education Centre is situate on the R563 (Krugersdorp - Hekpoort Road some 20 km NW of Krugersdorp on the property adjoining the "Maropeng - Cradle of Humankind Heritage Site" Group Size: The initial goal was to entertain 250 children. We did not achieve this, but were able to entertain and treat 176 children. Participating Schools: Sonitus, Nuwe Hoop, Transvalia and Prinshof. Report: The initial programme had to be changed as a result of the rain. We unfortunately were unable to conduct the game drives and team building exercises that had been planned. Plan Z was put in place and the kids were treated to a short hike, various impromptu games and entertainment was conducted under the capable hands of 6 Horizon New Century Lions Club members, whilst we the Lions were preparing the hamburger patties and the Lions Ladies the rolls etc... Some talented students entertained us with their singing, before departing back to Pretoria. A great day was had by all. |
