Steam Train to Cullinan 2008We stepped back in time on this Heritage Day! We took a vintage steam train to the quaint, historic diamond village of Cullinan. We filled up a coach with 28 senior citiazens from House Emily Hobhouse, 25 seniors from Uncle Ben's Den and 30 Lions fimalies and their friends. On behalf of the Lions Club of Pretoria South, we would like to thank everybody who attended the annual "Steam Train Trip" for their generous support of our efforts to brighten the life of a few senior citizens of our community. We arrived at seven in the morning and started with lining up some tea and coffees. Only to find that all the seniors were dropped at the wrong station. Thanks to all the Lions who helped transporting the seniors from the Hercules station back to the Hermanstad station. We would like to thank Shelley and the Lion Ladies for serving the tea and coffee with delicious rusks. After boarding the train at 8:30 the long wait started and we only departed at 9:15. Thanks to Wesley for the wonderful entertainment he provided the whole day. On our arrival at Cullinan the tourist information Centre provided transport to their offices where we were entertained with video and vintage mining displays. This was followed up by a tour through Cullinan on the back of a trailer being pulled by a tractor. The tour was concluded at the recreational Centre where we had lunch. Once again Wesley provided entrainment during lunch. The tourist information centre was so kind to provide us again with free transport back to the station where we department a 15:00.
The successful day was enjoyed by senior citizens, Lions, their families, and their friends. |
