Zone Project - DISTRIBUTION OF "TOY RUN"- TOYSOn 1 December Lions from Pretoria South, Arcadia and Jakaranda assisted in the basic sorting of toys. On 7 December Lions from Pretoria South, Jakaranda, Arcadia and Midrand Club packed the sweet packs and toys for the 701 children at Nokeng (Refilwe). The members of Pretoria South Lions Club then proceeded to select and pack toys for Genadeplaas, Eersterust en Wolmer. During the course of the week packing for Sonheuwel and Helping Hands was also done. On 14 December the Lions Clubs of Arcadia, Jakaranda, South, Centurion and Midrand went to Nokeng (Refilwe) near Cullinan for the combined Zone project. The maximum age was 5 years and the children were exceptionally well disciplined and well behaved. After meeting father Christmas these toddlers waited patiently while the Mayor and the other dignitaries had the limelight before receiving their gift bags two hours later. DG Derek and LL Patty also attended the function. The following article was published in the Beeld of 15 December 2008:
On 16 December LP Kenneth, Lions Hannes, Lionel and LLs Susan and Magda delivered toys to Genadeplaas, Wolmer and Sonheuwel. A Christmas party was given to the children and parents at Sonheuwel. The Dely Road Super Spar contributed eats to the value of approximately R 400,00. Toys were also given to Pretoria Host (4 bags), Warmbad Lions Club (three bags). In total 380 toys were distributed apart from the Zone project. A big thank you to all the Lions and Lions Ladies that assisted in making this project the success that it was. |
Motorcycle Toy Run 2008Toy Run 2008 was here again, bigger and better than ever before. This year the Gauteng Motorcycle Toy Run took place on Sunday 30th November and was one of the most exciting events on this year's motorcycling calendar. This year's Motorcycle Toy Run started at 4 points around Gauteng and finished at the new end venue Expo Centre, Nasrec, which is the largest covered end venue facility we have ever been able to utilise. Once again live bands entertained, full catering were provided and our largest ever trade show took place. No cash entry fee was charged for the event but everyone were asked to bring a gift for the underprivileged as their entry. Gifts for children from babies to 18 years for both boys and girls will be gratefully distributed to worthy homes all over Gauteng on the final weeks before Christmas by members of Rotary, Lions, Roundtable, Ladies Circle, Salvation Army, Rotary Anns and Rotoract.
Not only is the Toy Run a spectacle, it's the biggest biker party of the year and a motorcycle procession of awesome proportions. The object of the Toy Run is for each participant to donate one or more toys, to make Christmas a little brighter for children of all ages and races in orphanages, shelters, homes and hospitals in our communities. In addition to raising the general publics view of motor bikers |
